Master Music from the Core and Achieve Excellence
On of Joanna’s passions in music is building confidence in her students abilities. It is wonderful to see them accomplish their goals and to achieve as a musician or singer.
In piano, she teaches sight-reading, chords, theory, techniques, transposing, and composition, and she has been in several competitions in the 1970s and went on to higher region competitions. She has been arranging music since 1973 and has worked with churches on arrangements for choirs and chorals. She teaches all children, teens, and adults and specializes in young children. Some of her students have gone to elite bands.
In the 1990s, she taught in pre-schools the fundamental music class with classical, instrumental, and listening voices. She has a music education in Kodaly and solfege. This education is also used for instrumental value but used mainly for voice to learn the value of developing the voice as an instrument without using an instrument for pitch. She specializes in musicals and theater but also teaches pop, gospel and a variety of music. She teaches projection, dictation for theatre arts with vocal lessons. She specializes in theater musicals and breathing techniques. Some of these techniques can help for people who have breathing difficulties. She studied the Alexander technique, which is used for performance, projection, musicians, athletes, and pain management. She is a vocal coach for some students who compete in San Diego, Southern California, and the Western Region. She competed in the 1970s with voice and went to higher regions in competitions. She writes children’s musicals and has been involved in being a children’s musical director.
Since 2020, she has been teaching voice and piano lessons online. She specializes in younger children but teaches all ages. Online she also prepared children for auditions, competitions, acting lines for voice.
She has played piano since she was 7 years old and has taught and performed for over 20 years. She is a worship leader for a North County church and performs music therapy in skilled nursing retirement homes. Joanna has composed music written on contemporary Christian radio stations and also composed classical and contemporary music with stories. She is a member of A.S.C.A.P. She would like to specialize in expressive art therapy using art and classical music someday. She loves working with children and elderly people. She also specializes in younger children teaching, piano fundamental skills theory, and songs.
